Jayhawk Statue Installed Near Anderson Football Complex at Memorial Stadium

Sept. 1, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Athletics has installed a new Jayhawk on campus. This one, a four-foot-high, 700-pound bronze Jayhawk statue, sits atop a two-ton, 40-inch-high base just outside the locker room at the Anderson Family Football Complex on the path to Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium.

The statue, created by sculptor John Free of Pawhuska, Okla., faces north toward the stadium and is accessible to the tailgating areas on the hill. The statue presents fans with a terrific photo opportunity, particularly during commencement and other events on the hill. When standing on the west side of the statue, a photographer can capture the Jayhawk in the foreground and The Campanile, Fraser Hall and other historic campus buildings in the background.

With statue in tow, Kansas football will kick off its 2011 season on Saturday against non-conference foe McNeese State at 6 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on AT&T Jayhawk All-Access at kuathletics.com.
