Sept. 2, 2004

LAWRENCE, Kan. – When the newest batch of women’s collegiate soccer rankings were released on Aug. 30, the Jayhawks found themselves in an exciting new position, the top 10.

Kansas appeared in the Aug. 30 version of SoccerBuzz’s Top 30 soccer poll as the No. 9 team in the country. The single-digit ranking, which is the first of its kind in the history of the KU women’s soccer program, came after the Jayhawks completed a two-game road trip with a perfect record to begin the season. KU began the season ranked 11th in the SoccerBuzz preseason poll.

The Jayhawks also climbed to the top of the SoccerBuzz Central Region rankings, ahead of Big 12 rivals Texas and Texas A&M and SEC powerhouse Tennessee. KU vaulted to the top of the Central Region poll at the end of last season, after the team’s first ever Sweet 16 appearance.
