No. 26 Jayhawks, Auburn play to 1-1 tie

WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Senior Emily Strinden scored her first goal of the season while goalkeeper Colleen Quinn made five saves as the University of Kansas played to a draw with Auburn, 1-1, Saturday evening at Waipio Peninsula Stadium.

The Jayhawks move to 0-1-1, while the Tigers move to 0-0-1.

Strinden gave Kansas a 1-0 lead late in the first half. The senior forward knocked home a feed from freshman Erin Lewis following a free kick by freshman Lauren Jackson at 33:55. Both Lewis and Jackson were credited with their first collegiate assists on the play.

KU dominated the flow of the first half, outshooting the Tigers, 8-2 in the initial 45 minutes of play.

Auburn evened the match in the 82nd minute off a corner kick. Becca Howell used her head to direct in a Lauren Stewart corner kick to tie the match.

Kansas thwarted 11 shot attempts by the Tigers in the final 65 minutes of play.

Quinn, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., made five saves for the match, including four after the first intermission.

Junior Jessica Bush led the Jayhawks with four shot attempts, while sophomore Kim Boyer and junior Missy Geha each chipped in two.

Auburn outshot KU 13-12 for the match and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Kansas will play its home-opener Thursday afternoon with a 5 p.m. match with Brigham Young at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
