Sept. 5, 2009
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
To get the Jayhawks’ 2009 season off on the right foot, senior quarterback Todd Reesing has taken matters into his own hands – and feet.
Reesing rushed for KU’s first two scores and threw a pair of second quarter touchdown passes to give the 25th-ranked Jayhawks a 28-0 halftime lead over visiting Northern Colorado in the season-opener at Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium Saturday evening.
The senior quarterback accounted for 195 of KU’s 298 yards in the first half, carrying the ball 10 times for 67 yards and throwing for 128.
Senior tailback Jake Sharp also enjoyed open running lanes in the first half, gaining 91 yards on 13 carries. As a team, KU has amassed 170 yards on the ground.
The Kansas defense held the Bears to just 80 yards of offense in the first half, with just 15 yards coming in the second quarter. Junior safety Chris Harris has led the defensive charge with four total tackles.
