Updated Status on Ty McKinney

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Charlie Weis released the following statement Thursday afternoon regarding KU junior college signee Ty McKinney:

“After discussing this matter with Ty McKinney, he has decided to wait until January to enroll at KU. Tomorrow (Sept. 7) he will take his last final exam and believes that any attempt to catch up academically at KU would be futile.”

“Ty has three years to play two–which means when he enrolls in January, he would then have two years of eligibility to be played in two years.”

“Ty intends to take extra classes at a junior college in preparation for January. Per Ty’s request, I will not respond to questions on this matter moving forward.”

Kansas looks to pick up its second-consecutive win to open the 2012 season when it plays host to Rice (0-1) on Saturday afternoon in Memorial Stadium. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m., with a live telecast on Fox Sports Net.
