Women's Golf to Compete At Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic

Sept. 7, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas women’s golf team will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 11-12, for the eighth annual Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club. The tournament, hosted by Colorado State, features two rounds on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Tee times for both days are scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

Five Kansas golfers qualified for this year’s tournament — senior Amanda Costner, junior Annie Giangrosso, and freshmen Meghan Gockel, Camilla Svensson and Emily Powers. Last year, Costner finished third individually with a four-under 212 including a 69 in the third round.

The 17-team field – the most competitive in the event’s history – includes Big 12 rivals Baylor and Colorado, Arkansas State, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Long Beach State, Montana, Montana State, Northern Colorado, Portland State, San Jose State, Weber State and Wyoming.

“This is a good first event for us,” Kansas head women’s golf coach Erin O’Neil said. “The golf course is straight-forward, and the weather will be good which will be helpful. We have three freshmen in our lineup, so this will not be as intimidating for their first tournament. We are going in with an open mind, and have potential to finish at the top.”
