KU Men's Golf to compete in Fairway Club Invitational

Sept. 10, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawks men’s golf team will travel to Nebraska City, Neb. over the weekend to participate in the Fairway Club Invitational, September 13-14. The tournament will take place at Arbor Links Golf Club and will be hosted by the University of Nebraska.

The Jayhawks are hoping to improve on a sixth place finish in the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, their first tournament of the season. Head coach Kit Grove has opted to go with the same lineup that he did in his first tournament. Senior Nate Barbee, sophomore Chris Gilbert, sophomore Dan Waite, junior Doug Quinones, and freshman David Catt will be making the trip to Nebraska City.

Gilbert was the standout individual for the Jayhawks at Turning Stone as he finished the 54 hole event in a tie for 15th place. Quinones and Catt are hoping to pick up where they left off as they both fired a 74 on the final 18.

Nebraska City is familiar territory as the team played in the tournament last year and placed an impressive third place. The aforementioned Barbee was the leader for the team last year as he put up a low round of 69 and finished in fifth place among all other individuals competing in the tournament.

This marks the second straight week the team has been on the road for a tournament, but the Kansas Invitational will be hosted by KU in Lawrence on September 20-21.

Drake won the event last year with a score of 12-under-par. The event can be followed live on golfstat.com
