Doubles Play Highlights Day One of UNC-W Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. –
The Kansas women’s tennis team went 4-3 in doubles play Friday on opening day at the UNC-Wilmington Collegiate Tennis Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
Senior Kunigunda Dorn teamed with junior Maria Martinez to roll past Furman University and UNC-W to reach the doubles semi-finals. The duo will meet sophomore Erin Wilbert and freshman Sara Lazarevic, who received a bye first round and went on to beat North Carolina State to reach the semi-finals.
Sophomore Ekaterina Morozova and freshman Victoria Khanevskaya defeated Georgetown in round one, but fell in a tiebreak to UNC-W in the second round.
In singles play, sophomores Erin Wilbert and Alessandra Dzuba were victorious, both advancing to the round of eight in their respective brackets. Dorn, Morozova, Khanevskaya, Martinez, Goff and Lazarevic will continue playing Saturday in the consolation rounds.
The second day of competition will start with doubles play and continue with singles.
