Kastor Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

091112aaa_918_8066810.jpegIRVING, Texas – Kansas junior soccer player Caroline Kastor has been honored by the Big 12 Conference as the forward was named Offensive Player of the Week for contests played Sept. 3-9 it was announced Tuesday. It is the fourth weekly conference honor by a Jayhawk this season and the first of Kastor’s career.

The Wichita, Kan., native had a career weekend for the Jayhawks, notching two multi-goal matches and collecting an assist to add nine points to her now league-leading 16 points on the season. The junior claimed her first-career two-goal game and earned her second assist of the year in a 4-1 win over Missouri State Friday afternoon.

Two days later, she found the net twice in just over a minute, helping the Jayhawks to a 3-2 victory over NC State and extending their unbeaten streak to six games. Kastor now leads the conference in points (16), goals (seven) and game-winning goals (three).

Kansas has earned four weekly conference honors through the first four weeks of the 2012 campaign (Ashley Williams – 8/21: Newcomer, Ashley Williams – 9/4: Offensive, Ashley Williams – 9/4: Newcomer, Kastor – 9/11: Offensive), marking the most by a KU team in the opening four weeks since the inception of the Big 12 in 1996.

The Jayhawks return to action this Friday, Sept. 14 for a matchup with the Denver Pioneers. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m., at the Jayhawks Soccer Complex in Lawrence and can be viewed on AT&T Jayhawk All-Access.
