Hawks, Cops and Kids Set for Sept. 16

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The third annual Hawks, Cops and Kids, hosted by Kansas Athletics, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Big Brothers Big Sisters and local law enforcement officials will be held held Saturday, Kansas Athletics announced.

Local children from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program will participate in a day filled with fun, excitement and learning. The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will include hands-on activities and educational sessions in Anderson Family Strength Complex, Allen Fieldhouse and Anschutz Pavilion.

Hawks, Cops and Kids provides an opportunity for children in grades 3-8 with the chance to interact with KU student-athletes and learn valuable lessons from law enforcement professionals. Student-athletes from Kansas Athletics teams will be paired with a law enforcement official to lead the groups at each educational and activity stations. The educational stations will include lessons about personal safety/stranger danger, internet safety and anti-drug awareness. The participants will also have the chance to participate in activities such as basketball, track and field, rowing, football and golf, led by student-athletes from those respective sports.
