Jayhawk Soccer Cracks Top 25

Sept. 12, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas soccer team was rewarded for its upset win over 12th-ranked Duke on Tuesday by earning a national ranking in two different polls. The Jayhawks broke into the Soccer America top 25 with a No. 18 ranking and are also ranked 20th in the Soccer Times poll.

“It’s a nice honor for the team after how we played last weekend,” KU head coach Mark Francis said. “As long as we keep producing results on the field, the rankings should take care of themselves.”

This marks the first time that KU has enjoyed a spot in a national poll since Oct. 31 of last year, when the team was ranked 29th in the Soccer Buzz poll. The No. 18 ranking in the Soccer America poll also marks the team’s highest ranking since it was ranked 16th in the final Soccer Buzz poll of 2004.

KU (4-1) plays host to Pepperdine on Friday at 5 p.m., and UCF, Sunday at 1 p.m., at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
