Jayhawks to Face Toledo Friday on ESPN2

Sept. 13, 2006

Lawrence, Kan. — The University of Kansas (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) continues non-conference play Friday, Sept. 15 at 8:06 p.m. (ET) when the Jayhawks travel to Toledo (0-2, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) for a nationally televised game on ESPN2. The Jayhawks, making their first road trip of 2006, are 2-0 for the third-straight season.

Kansas moved to 2-0 after defeating Louisiana Monroe 21-19 Saturday night in Lawrence. The win was KU’s eighth-straight at Memorial Stadium where the team has not lost since No. 6 Texas claimed a 27-23 come-from-behind victory on Nov. 13, 2004. Freshman quarterback Kerry Meier threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the Jayhawk offense against the Warhawks.

Toledo enters its home-opener against KU with an 0-2 record after a dropping a pair of road contests (at Iowa State, at Western Michigan). The Rockets have appeared in four bowl games over the last five years including last season’s GMAC Bowl against UTEP — a game which Toledo won 45-13. The Rockets were 9-3 in 2005 and tied for first-place in the MAC-West with a 6-3 league mark.
