Kansas to Host 16-team Kansas Invitational

Sept. 13, 2006

LAWRENCE, KAN. –

The University of Kansas men’s golf team returns to action on Sept. 18th when it hosts the Kansas Invitational. The Kansas Invitational, which has been held since 1983, will be hosted at Alvamar Golf Club. The 54-hole event will be played over two-days with 36-holes being completed on Monday.

The Jayhawks are two-time defending champions of the event and will look to build off their fifth place finish at the Rich Harvest Farms Intercollegiate. Senior Gary Woodland and sophomore Zach Pederson aim to repeat their strong performances from last year’s event, where they finished third and fourth respectively.

Alvamar Golf Club, developed by Bob Billings and opened in 1968, serves as the home course for the Jayhawk men’s golf team. The par-72, 7,092-yard course has been the exclusive host to the Kansas Invitational since its inaugural season.

The 16-team field, which includes Big 12 members Iowa State and Nebraska, will begin play at 8:00 a.m. Monday.
