KANSAS CITY – The No. 24 Kansas volleyball team improved its record to 8-0 with a sweep win at UMKC Tuesday night at the Swinney Recreation Center. Three Jayhawks recorded double-digit kills as KU defeated the Kangaroos 30-22, 30-19 and 34-32.

Junior middle blocker Josi Lima paced KU with a match-high 15 kills on a .344 attack percentage while senior Ashley Michaels added 11 kills (.391 attack percentage) and four block assists. Junior outside hitter Paula Caten also recorded 10 kills in the win.

Freshman opposite hitter Emily Brown added eight kills on a .382 attack percentage, five digs and four block assists. Senior Lindsey Morris added six kills while Andi Rozum added six kills of her own to go with a match-best 45 assists.

Senior libero Jill Dorsey led the defense with 17 digs while sophomore Jamie Mathewson contributed a career-high 10 digs for the Jayhawks. KU hit .333 and out-blocked the Kangaroos 10.0 to 4.0.

Vanessa Portela led UMKC with 14 kills in 33 attempts while Lauren Starks (13 digs) led the Kangaroo defense.

The Jayhawks won games one and two convincingly, holding UMKC to just a .091 hitting mark in the first stanza and posting a remarkable .533 attack percentage in the second.

UMKC took a quick lead in game three but KU roared back behind the serving of Lima and Brown. The Kangaroos took advantage of Kansas hitting errors to tie the game at 28-all and exchanged leads until 32-32.

UMKC netted a service error to give KU a one-point lead before Michaels put a kill down the line to give the Jayhawks the narrow victory and match win.

The Jayhawks will next be in action Friday when they begin Big 12 play at No. 12 Texas A&M. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at the G. Rollie White Coliseum.
