Jayhawks Set to Host 2007 Kansas Invitational

The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas men’s golf team returns to action on Sept. 17th when it hosts the Kansas Invitational. The Kansas Invitational, which has been held since 1983, will be hosted at Alvamar Golf Club. The 54-hole event will be played over two-days with 36 holes being completed on Monday.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks are three-time defending champions of the event, including Gary Woodland’s individual title in last year’s event. The Jayhawks will be looking to regroup after opening their season with a 17th-place finish at the St. Mary’s Invitational. True freshman Nate Barbee led the way for the Jayhawks with a 47th-place finish.

Alvamar Golf Club, developed by Bob Billings and opened in 1968, serves as the home course for the Jayhawk men’s golf team. The par-72, 7,092-yard course has been the exclusive host to the Kansas Invitational since its inaugural season.

The 16-team field, which includes Big 12 members KansasState and Nebraska, will begin play at 8:00 a.m. Monday.
