KU Women's Golf to Compete at Ron Moore Intercollegiate

Denver, Colo. – The University of Kansas women’s golf team will compete in an 18-team field at the University of Denver’s Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate, Sept. 17-18, at Highlands Ranch Golf Club (6,518-yard, par 72) in Denver, Colo. The teams will play 36 holes to complete rounds one and two on Monday with the final round beginning Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Senior Annie Giangrosso, sophomores Meghan Gockel and Emily Powers and freshmen Meghna Bal and Grace Thiry will represent the Jayhawks in team-play.

Seven Big 12 schools highlight the 18-team field, which includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State, Columbia, Denver, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi, North Carolina-Wilmington, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, San Fransisco, San Jose State, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UC-Davis.

“Our plan is to use what we learned from the tournament in Nebraska and continue to improve in Denver,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “We are young and talented and I think we will get better with each event.”

This past week the Jayhawks opened their fall slate at Nebraska’s Chip-N Club Invitational at Lincoln, Neb. The team finished fifth place out of 19, and sophomore Emily Powers tied for 10th place with a three-round score of 224 (76-73-75). Senior Annie Giangrosso carded a third-round score of 74 to advance to 12th place, finishing with a total score of 227. Freshmen Meghna Bal, Sydney Wilson and Grace Thiry made their debut tournament as Jayhawks, shooting composite scores o f 234, 243 and 230 respectively.
