The University of Kansas women’s tennis team will begin its fall season Friday when the Jayhawks host the 2011 Kansas Invitational at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. KU will square off against Kentucky, Washington State, Colorado, South Dakota, UMKC, Arkansas State, Saint Louis and Nova Southeastern Friday through Sunday.

Kansas returns seven athletes from last season’s team that went 9-12 and 3-8 in Big 12 play. Newcomers Claire Dreyer and Karen Hernandez look to add depth to the Jayhawk squad. Dreyer, a sophomore, comes in as a transfer from Dayton where she went 5-9 in No. 1 singles and Hernandez, a freshman from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexco, will compete in her first tournament as a Jayhawk. Head coach Amy Hall-Holt is back at the helm for her ninth season.

Following the Invitational, the Jayhawks will travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Invitational Sept. 30 – Oct. 2. Full results from both tournaments will be available at kuathletics.com.
