KU Women's Golf to Open Fall Season at Dale McNamara Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 2012-13 KU women’s golf season commences Monday, Sept. 17 at the Golf Club of Oklahoma for the third annual Dale McNamara Invitational. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday on the 6,282-yard, par-72 Golf Club of Oklahoma Course in Broken Arrow, Okla.

The Jayhawks faced six rounds of qualifying to determine who will kick-off the season come Monday morning. The line-up includes seniorAudrey Yowell, juniorsMeghan PoteeandThanuttra Boonraksasatwho placed fifth and third at last year’s invitational, sophomoreGabby DiMarcoand freshmenYupaporn Kawinpakorn.

Head CoachErin O’Neilis ready get the season under-way to overcome the team’s biggest challenge.

“It’s our first tournament of the fall so I suspect we’ll have a bit of nerves,” said the seventh-year coach O’Neil. “We’ve done a lot in practice to try to simulate tournaments, so hopefully they have some strategies and plays to adjust to those nerves and embrace them.”

The Jayhawks look forward to leaving their mark in Tulsa, Okla., but also strive to improve throughout the season.

“Our goals for this tournament and for this season are to stay in the moment to play within ourselves,” said O’Neil. “The girls have the ability, they just have to trust it and hopefully make the right decisions that fit their personal games.”

Yowell, Potee, Boonraksasat, DiMarco and Kawinpakorn will be facing tough competition with teams ranked in top40. The 15-team field includes Arizona State, UALR, Augusta State, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Florida, Illinois, Kennesaw State, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas San Antonia and host Tulsa. The tournament will lead with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m., on Monday and conclude Tuesday afternoon.
