Tennis Excels in Day Two of Hurricane Invitational

TULSA, Okla.–After a successful opening day at the Hurricane Invitational, the University of Kansas tennis team dominated on day two, posting a composite record of 10-1 in doubles and singles play. With its success on Saturday, Kansas now has an impressive two-day record of 16-6.

The Jayhawks started out the day by taking five of six singles matches versus Big 12 rival Oklahoma. Christine Skoda, Lauren Hommell, Edina Horvath, Brittany Brown and Ksenia Bukina all notched victories in Kansas’ first set of matches.

Kansas then shifted to doubles competition with Missouri State University, taking both matches. The Hawk’s duo of Bukina and Elizaveta Avdeeva handled MSU’s team of Liz Garza and Maja Stonjevic, 8-0. Also notching a victory for Kansas was the tandem of Hommell and Horvath, who defeated the Bear’s Nora Kuruc and Amanda Pratzel, 8-4.

Kansas’ final matches of the day saw the Jayhawks’ Brown and Skoda notch another doubles victory over Wichita State’s Jacki Richey and Wendi Webster, as well as Kansas’ tandem of Hommell and Horvath also picking up their second doubles win of the day over the Shockers’ Anna Ines Exini and Torrie Browning.

Head Coach Amy Hall-Holt said the team was very excited about its success on Saturday. “I’m really proud of our team today,” Hall-Holt said. “We played well and battled hard all day. Our girls are very happy about their performance.”

The final day of the tournament will get underway at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, and run throughout the afternoon.
