Sophomore Claire Dreyer and junior Victoria Khanevskaya made it to the finals of their respective singles draws on the second day of the 2011 Kansas Invitational Friday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. KU went 4-3 in singles action and 3-3 in doubles competition.

Dreyer, a transfer from Dayton, defeated Shadi Soleymani from South Dakota, 6-3, 6-4, to move on to the finals of Singles Draw E. Khanevskaya took down Colorado’s Ashley Tiefel, 6-2, 6-3, to reach the finals of Singles Draw F.

Sophomores Amy Barnthouse and Dylan Windom came back from losses on the first day of the tournament to capture victories on the consolation sides of their respective singles draws. In Singles Draw G, Barnthouse routed Nova Southeastern’s Kamryn Blackwood, 6-1, 6-0, while Windom defeated Alena Sergeychik from South Dakota, 6-2, 6-3, in Singles Draw D.

In doubles, junior Monica Pezzotti and sophomore Paulina Los made it to the championship of Doubles Draw A before falling to Colorado 8-6. The KU tandems of Khanevskaya and Barnthouse, and Dreyer and freshman Karen Hernandez both placed seventh in their respective doubles draws.

KU will wrap up the Kansas Invitational Sunday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Matches are slated to begin at 9 a.m. and are free to the public.
