Jayhawks Play Host to 2008 Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Hosting its only home tournament of the year, the University of Kansas women’s golf team will tee off in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, at Alvamar Public Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22-23.

Play will begin with an 8 a.m shotgun on Monday, with teams playing 36 holes. Tuesday’s final 18 holes are also set for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. There will be 16 teams competing in this year’s event. The course measures 6,242 yards and par is set at 72.

The Jayhawks’ lineup features juniors Emily Powers and Meghan Gockel, sophomores Grace Thiry and Meghana Bal and freshman Kalynd Carson. Three Jayhawks will compete as individuals including Alyssa Rainbolt, Jennifer Clark and Sydney Wilson.

The tournament is the second of the fall season for KU, which placed seventh at the Nebraska Chip-N-Club Invitational on Sept. 16. Thiry led the way finishing in 10th place, while Powers tied for 20th, Bal tied for 30th, Gockel tied for 41st and Wilson finished 71st.
