Kansas swimming and diving kicked off their season with an Alumni Meet Friday, Sept. 18 in Robinson Natatorium.

“It was a lot of fun,” Head Coach Clark Campbell said. “It was great to see all of our swimmers and divers back today and a fun way to start the weekend.”

Alumni placed first in all events but the mixed 50-yard backstroke event, which junior Iuliia Kuzhil won with a time of 26.31. Kuzhil also placed fifth in the mixed 50-yard butterfly (26.54) and third in the mixed 50-yard breaststroke (31.02). Sophomore Abigail Anderson also had a good start to the season with a third place finish in the mixed 50 butterfly (26.29) and a second place finish in the mixed 50 backstroke (27.72).

Leading the way for the alumni was recent KU standout Danielle Herrmann, who place first in the mixed 50 butterfly (25.53), mixed 50 breaststroke (29.55) and mixed 100 IM (58.42). Former men’s swimmer Mike Blundell placed second in the mixed 50 breaststroke (30.47), third in the mixed 100 IM (1:00.61), contributed to alumni mixed 200-yard medley relay team A’s first place finish (1:45.75) and helped his alumni relay team A to a second place finish in the mixed 200-yard free relay.

Campbell saw this meet as a great way to evaluate his student-athletes at the beginning of the new campaign.

“We have a lot of things to work on, but that’s ok,” Campbell said. “It’s September, and that’s just the start of a long season.”

The Jayhawks will be in action again for the Intrasquad Meet Friday, Oct. 9 in Robinson Natatorium. The meet will begin at 4 p.m.
