Jayhawks to Host Kansas Invitational

Sept. 18, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

After two tournaments on the road, the Kansas men’s golf team returns home for its third tournament of the fall season to host the Kansas Invitational on September 20-21. The tournament will be played at Alvamar Public Course.

Head coach Kit Grove said that he was planning to make some lineup changes after the team competed in the Fairway Club Invitational in Nebraska. Grove is sticking to his word as there are two new faces in the lineup who will make their season debut this coming Monday.

Freshman Bryce Brown and sophomore Alex Gutesha will replace freshman David Catt and sophomore Dan Waite in the lineup. Joining Brown and Gutesha are senior Nate Babree (76.8 scoring average this year), sophomore Chris Gilbert (75.00), and junior Doug Quinones (74.6).

Gutesha competed in 12 events as a freshman and posted two top-20 finishes. Additionally, Gutesha was second on the team last season in scoring average per round at 75.53 strokes per round. Brown, a freshman from Lincoln, Neb., will compete in his first collegiate tournament after being a part of two state championships in high school.

Barbee won the Kansas Invitational last year, making him the first individual from KU to win a tournament since 2007. As a team, the Jayhawks finished a season-best second place, just two strokes behind winner Oklahoma.

Competing in the tournament this year are: Creighton, Drake, Jacksonville, Kansas, Kansas State, UMKC, Missouri State, Nebraska, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, and Western Kentucky.

The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. on both days. 36 holes will be played on Monday and 18 will be played on Tuesday. Scores and updates can be accessed at golfstat.com. The tournament is open to the public and free of charge.
