Sophomore Claire Dreyer was crowned champion of the Singles Draw E Sunday on the third and final day of the 2011 Kansas Invitational at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. KU went 4-3 in singles competition to complete the tournament, which was made up of individuals from Kansas, Kentucky, Washington State, Colorado, South Dakota, UMKC, Arkansas State, Saint Louis and Nova Southeastern.

Dreyer, a transfer from Dayton, defeated Washington State’s Olga Musilovich, 7-6 (2), 6-2, to take first in Singles Draw E. Junior Victoria Khanevskaya also made it to the championship match of Singles Draw F, but eventually fell to Elizaveta Luzina of Washington State, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 10-5, to take second place.

Sophomores Amy Barnthouse and Dylan Windom both placed fifth in their respective draws on the final day of the invitational. In Singles Draw G, Barnthouse took down UMKC’s Gabriela Pintos, 8-2, while Windom defeated Misha Testerman from Kentucky, 8-6, in Singles Draw D.

After a weekend off, the Jayhawks will head to Lexington, Ky., to play in the Kentucky Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Please check back with kuathletics.com for results from the tournament.
