LAWRENCE, Kan. –
The University of Kansas men’s golf team took home first place at the Kansas Invitational on Tuesday. Kansas finished the two-day tournament with a final round total of 289 for a three-round total of 852 (-12) on the 7,092 yard, par-72 Alvamar Golf Club.
“We played well enough to win today, so I am pretty happy with that,” head coach Ross Randall said. “We had a couple of players step up for us and that is what we needed.”
Kansas defeated Tulsa by three strokes after the Golden Hurricane shot an 855..
In team competition, junior Gary Woodland took home third place after a final round of 74 gave him a three-round total of 209. Freshman Zach Pederson tied for fourth with a 210 after firing a 70. Senior Pete Krsnich tied for 28th after shooting 74 for a combined total of 216. Junior Tyler Docking tied for 33rd after carding a 72 for a combined score of 219. Senior Luke Trammell tied for 43rd shooting a 74 in the final round.
Five Jayhawks competed on an individual basis, and were led by junior Barrett Martens, who shot a 69 for a share of 11th place with a total of 214. Senior Ryan Rainer tied for 28th after his 75 gave him a combined score of 218. Senior Jason Sigler tied for 43rd after a 72 gave him a total of 221. Sophomore Joey Mundy also tied for 43rd after carding a 72 for a combined score of 221. Freshman Walt Koelbel fired a final round of 70 to finish in a tie for 63rd.
Kansas will next be in action on Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in Nashville, Tenn.
