Jayhawk Volleyball Makes a Stop at No. 4 Nebraska Wednesday
Sept. 21, 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Coming off a big win versus Texas A&M Saturday, the University of Kansas volleyball team (10-3, 1-1 Big 12) will look to continue its momentum when it travels to No. 4 Nebraska (10-1, 2-0 Big 12) Wednesday, Sept. 22 for a 7 p.m. match. The Jayhawks’ defense, which is third in the Big 12 Conference limiting opponents to a .147 attack percentage, will be tested against one of the league’s toughest offenses. Fans in the Lawrence area can watch the match on tape delay on Metro Sports Wednesday evening at 11 p.m. on Sunflower Broadband channel 37.
KU’s defensive efforts will lie largely in the hands of freshman libero Brianne Riley. Riley was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Sept. 20 for pacing the Jayhawks with 3.67 digs per set in two matches last week, including a team-high 15 digs in the team’s win versus Texas A&M. She was also perfect in 34 service receptions in the win, which marked head coach Ray Bechard’s 200th victory at Kansas.
On the other side of the ball, Kansas’ outside hitter duo of senior Karina Garlington and junior Allison Mayfield lead the KU offense with 3.38 kps and 3.00 kps, respectively. Both have tallied 12-plus kills in each of their first two Big 12 contests.
