The University of Kansas men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 24, for the 20th Annual Roy Griak Invitational at the Les Bolstad Golf Course. The meet, which is hosted by the University of Minnesota, is scheduled to begin with the men’s 8k race at 11:20 a.m. followed by the women’s 6k race at 12:10 p.m. Both the 20-team men’s field and the 23-team women’s field will include Big 12 Conference foes Baylor and Nebraska.

Saturday’s Roy Griak Invitational will mark the first race of the season for returning All-American Benson Chesang (Eldama Ravine, Kenya). Chesang, the 2004 Big 12 champion, finished 11th overall at this same race a year ago. The talented junior earned All-American status last year by finishing seventh in the NCAA Championships.

The Jayhawks have enjoyed much success thus far in the early portion of their schedule. The women’s side is coming off consecutive victories at the Bob Timmons Invitational and the KSU/KU Dual. The men also won the Bob Timmons before tying the Wildcats at the KSU/KU Dual. Sophomore Colby Wissel (Elm Creek, Neb.) has been the overall winner in both men’s races so far this season.

Following the Roy Griak Invitational, the Jayhawks will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 15.
