LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas freshman forward Emily Cressy has been named the Big 12 Soccer Newcomer of the Week. This marks the second time this season that Cressy has earned the honor from the conference office.

Cressy scored the game-winning goal in Kansas’ 3-2 win at No. 18 Central Florida. She broke a 2-2 tie in the 82nd minute to give the Jayhawks their first road win over a ranked opponent since 2004. Cressy leads KU with five goals, including three game-winning scores. She is currently tied for fourth in the Big 12 in goals, and is eighth in total points.

More importantly, the Jayhawks are 4-0 in contests in which she’s scored at least one goal.

Cressy was joined by Texas senior Courtney Gaines (Offensive) and Texas A&M’s Kelly Dyer (Defensive) on the weekly conference honor roll.

Cressy and the 18th-ranked Jayhawks (6-2) open Big 12 play this weekend starting with a road match at Nebraska, Friday at 4:30 p.m.
