Sept. 24, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

After notching a triple-double and double-double in last week’s matches to help the University of Kansas volleyball team to a pair of conference victories, senior Emily Brown has been tabbed Big 12 Offensvie Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 24, 2007.

Brown becomes the first Jayhawk to earn the award since Josi Lima on Sept. 19, 2005 and just the seventh in KU volleyball history.

Brown led her team with 6.75 assists per game, while notching a .312 hitting percentage, 2.75 kills per game and adding 2.25 digs and 1.00 blocks per game to help Kansas to a five-game victory over Missouri Wednesday night and a 3-0 sweep of Texas Tech Saturday afternoon.

Against Missouri, Brown recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 29 assists. The outside hitter/setter also pitched in seven digs and six block assists to help lift the Jayhawks to a dramatic five-game victory, KU’s first win in the Hearnes Center since Nov. 13, 2001, to snap a 12-match conference losing streak.

Brown then went on to tally her second triple-double of the season, the third for her career, against Texas Tech. The Baldwin City, Kan., native swung for 10 kills to go along with 25 assists and 11 digs. Her impressive .444 hitting percentage was also a match-best.
