Sept. 24, 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
In search of its first Big 12 Conference road win, the Kansas volleyball team (10-4, 1-2 Big 12) travels to Colorado (4-5, 1-2 Big 12) Saturday, September 25 to take on the Buffaloes in a 7:30 p.m. (CT) match.
KU’s balanced defense has six players contributing two or more digs per set led by freshman libero Brianne Riley’s 3.65 dps average. The Jayhawks are third in the Big 12 limiting opponents to a .155 attack percentage and have held 10 of its 14 opponents under a .200 clip.
On offense, senior outside hitter Karina Garlington is eighth in the league with 3.33 kps and has tallied double-figure kills in the last three matches. Junior outside Allison Mayfield chips in with 2.92 kps, while senior Jenna Kaiser has contributed 2.50 kps during Big 12 play.
Colorado, which has one of the youngest teams in the country with only two returning letterwinners and 14 newcomers, picked up its first conference win Wednesday with a 3-2 victory versus Kansas State Wednesday to stop a three-match losing skid.
Kansas trails the all-time series with Colorado 14-34, including 4-19 in Boulder. However, KU has won the last three meetings with the Buffaloes and five of the last six.
