No. 17 Jayhawks Fall in Big 12 Opener at Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – Three different Cowgirls scored goals, including a pair in the second half as Oklahoma State downed No. 17 Kansas, 3-0 in the Big 12 opener for the Jayhawks at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.

The Cowgirls improve to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Jayhawks fall to 7-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12.

Despite outshooting the Cowgirls, 15-12, the Jayhawks fell in their conference opener, surrendering a pair of long goals in the second half.

Bridget Miller gave OSU an early lead in the first half. After Colleen Dougherty sent a cross into the box, Miller worked through a double team and got a shot off the near post and ricocheted into the net at 16:23. It marked the first time this season that KU’s opponent has scored first in the game.

Oklahoma State took a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute on a misplay by the Kansas defense. After a free kick at midfield, the ball was played into the box and eluded a Jayhawk defender who was in position, but found the foot of Kasey Langdon, who was all alone with the keeper and knocked in a shot from six feet out.

The Cowgirls put another goal on the board in the 76th minute on another long play. Following a goal kick, Katie Richardson picked up a loose ball and beat her defender one-v-one. She fired a shot past the keeper on the near side giving OSU a 3-0 lead with just under 15 minutes remaining.

The Jayhawks put pressure on the Cowgirls in the second half, holding a 10-6 advantage in shots. Kansas junior Caitlin Noble led the way with four shots, while Emily Cressy and Monica Dolinsky each had three.

Kansas senior goalkeeper Julie Hanley made three saves.

The Jayhawks will face Oral Roberts in their final non-conference match of the season Sunday at 1 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla.
