Kansas Rowing Opens Season At Head of the Des Moines

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas rowing heads to Des Moines, Iowa, this Saturday to compete in the Head of the Des Moines. The first regatta of the 2008-09 season, the Head of the Des Moines is an all day event. The varsity squad will represent Kansas at the regatta as the novice team does not begin competition until the Frostbite Regatta on Nov. 2.
Kansas is looking to continue its success with 46 rowers returning from last year’s varsity and novice teams that placed second at the Big 12 invitational last spring.
At the regatta, Kansas will face familiar instate foe Kansas State as well as St. Cloud University and Macalester University. Kansas was defeated by Kansas State in the Kansas Cup last season, but placed ahead of them at the Big 12 Invitational.
