Fall Rowing Season Begins Saturday at Head of the Oklahoma

Sept. 26, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team will compete in its first regatta of the year Saturday and Sunday as the squad travels to Oklahoma City to participate in the Head of the Oklahoma regatta. This is the first of two competitions for the Jayhawks during the fall season.

Kansas will have boats in several races including the collegiate single, double, four and eight. Last year, Kansas brought home ten top-10 finishes including first and third place in the collegiate eight 500m petite final and third and fourth place in the double. “We want to set the standard for how we want to compete this year,” KU head coach Rob Catloth said. “We want to be able to race with fast and competitive times compared to the other collegiate teams that are there.”

The numerous races over the two days provide many opportunities for KU rowers to get a taste of competition.

“We want to get everyone in several races and get their competitive juices flowing,” Catloth said. “It’s important to see improvement from last year right away and race as a team as fast as they can.”

The Jayhawks will complete their fall schedule with a trip to Chattanooga, Tenn. to participate in the Head of the Hooch Nov. 3-4.
