LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas softball team opened its fall season by going undefeated this past weekend at the Fall Invitational hosted by the Jayhawks at Arrocha Ballpark.

The Jayhawks claimed two wins against Emporia St. and also notched victories against Butler CC and Washburn. The Jayhawks won the four games by a combined score of 21-5.

“The coaching staff is pleased with what we saw this weekend on the whole,” said head coach Tracy Bunge. “It is easy to see the depth that we will have this year both on the pitching staff and in our offensive lineup.”

The Jayhawk pitching staff shutout both Butler CC and Emporia St. in the first day of the Fall Invitational. Sophomore Allie Clark and freshman Sarah Blair combined to shutout Butler CC 9-0 in game one, followed by a 3-0 shutout of Emporia St. in game two by senior Val George and Blair.

The Jayhawks defeated Washburn, 5-4, to start day two of the Fall Invitational. Four different Jayhawks delivered RBI’s in the game. The Jayhawks beat Emporia St., 4-1, in the Invitational finale behind senior catcher Elle Pottorf’s two hits and two RBI’s.
