Jayhawks Toss a Combined No-Hitter in Fall Ball Opener

Sept. 29, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Three new faces in the circle combined for 17 strikeouts en route to tossing a no-hitter to power the University of Kansas softball team past Johnson County Community College in the Jayhawks’ fall ball opener.

Junior transfer Morgan Druhan struck out seven in her three-inning start, allowing no hits and walking one. The freshman duo of Alicia Pille and Emily Stokes controlled the rest of the night as Pille also struck out seven and Stokes sat three down for the combined no-hit effort.

Junior left fielder Maggie Hull finished the evening just a single shy of the cycle to fuel the Kansas offense. A true team player, Hull drew a walk in her final at bat on Wednesday, passing on her chance to hit for the cycle. She belted a two-run shot as the second batter of the game and followed that with a double and a triple to finish the day 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Hull was just one of several success stories on Wednesday at Arrocha Ballpark when all but one Jayhawk drilled at least one base hit. Redshirt senior Liz Kocon cranked out a two-run bomb to highlight her 2-for-4 performance. Sophomore centerfielder Elsa Moyer went 4-for-6 with four RBI as 11 Jayhawks collected multiple hits. Freshman outfielder Cassen Salamone also posted a four-hit day.
