Jayhawk Volleyball to Visit Baylor

Sept. 30, 2004

Lawrence, Kan. – After losses at home to No. 7 Nebraska and No. 22 Texas, the 24th-ranked Kansas volleyball team (10-3, 1-3 Big 12) will look to rebound as it faces Baylor (7-7, 1-4 Big 12) Saturday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas.

Baylor Preview
Like Kansas, Baylor is coming off two straight conference losses. The Lady Bears fell to No. 25 Colorado and No. 14 Texas A&M 3-0 last week, dropping their record to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12. Against the Aggies, Baylor hit just .073 and had 12 serve reception errors on the night.

Baylor is 2-1 at home this season with wins over Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Oklahoma.

The Kansas/Baylor Series
The Lady Bears own a 12-7 advantage in the series against the Jayhawks. However, KU has won the teams’ last four matches.

September Review
Kansas went 10-3 in the month of September, including 4-0 in non-conference play and 5-2 at home. Since the Horejsi Family Athletics Center opened in 1999, the Jayhawks have boasted a 32-8 record there in the month of September.

Kansas Remains in National Rankings
Despite a loss to then-ranked No. 22 Texas last week, Kansas remained in the USA TODAY/CSTV Coaches’ Poll on Sept. 27, coming in at No. 24. The Jayhawks’ fell three spots from 21st last week, their highest-ever national ranking.

Five other teams from the Big 12 Conference are ranked in the Top 25: No. 7 Nebraska, No. 14 Texas A&M, No. 15 Kansas State, No. 18 Texas and No. 25 Colorado.

Big 12 Remains One of the Toughest
For the second consecutive week, the Big 12 was well-represented in Division I volleyball’s national poll. The Big 12 remained tied with the Pac-10 Conference in leading all other leagues with six teams making appearances in this week’s USA TODAY/CSTV Coaches’ Poll.

Kansas, ranked as high as 21st in the nation, was picked by the league’s coaches to finish seventh in the Big 12 this season.
