Kansas Women's Golf Travels to Missouri for Johnie Imes Invitational

Oct. 1, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan.—Kansas women’s golf heads to Columbia, Mo., for the Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne October 4 and 5.

“We are excited to head to Columbia this weekend, especially after our win at home,” said Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil.

The Jayhawks are coming off a first place finish at the Marilynn Smith Invitational led by Grace Thiry and Katy Nugent who finished first and second, respectively.

Thiry is averaging 73.4 strokes per round through the first two tournaments of the season. Newcomer Katy Nugent is just one stroke behind at 74.4.

Joining Thiry and Nugent in the KU lineup are Meghna Bal, 75 strokes per round, Thanuttra Boonraksasat at 78.2 strokes and Jennifer Clark at 78 strokes per round.

Freshman Meghan Potee will compete as an individual after finishing 38th in her first collegiate competition at the Marilynn Smith Invitational.

Joining Kansas at the Johnie Imes Invitational are Big 12 foes Baylor, Colorado, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Non-conference competition includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Illinois State, Missouri State, Princeton, Texas State and Wisconsin.

“There will be a lot of conference teams at this event and it should be a good opportunity to see where we stand,” said O’Neil. “A few of the players have played Old Hawthorne and I think that familiarity will be an advantage.”
