Pezzotti, Windom head to All-American Championships

Oct. 1, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Monica Pezzotti and junior Dylan Windom will begin play Tuesday in the qualifying draw of the 2012 ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Tennis Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

The No. 25-ranked doubles duo in the country must win three consecutive matches on Tuesday and Wednesday to qualify for the 24-team main draw, which starts Thursday. Updated draws and further tournament information can me found on the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships online page throughout the week.

Last year, Windom and then-partner Ekaterina Morozova became the first Kansas tennis athletes to qualify for the tournament’s main doubles draw since 1990. The duo went on to notch three consecutive victories and advance to the main draw quarterfinals.

Pezzotti and Windom won their first two doubles matches in last weekend’s KU Invitational before Pezzotti suffered an undisclosed injury that forced the two to withdraw from the tournament. Coach Amy Hall-Holt expected Pezzotti to make a full recovery before this week’s All-American Championships.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Kansas women’s tennis team will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the William & Mary Invitational Oct. 5-7.
