Jayhawks Remain Perfect in Fall Ball

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas softball team continued Fall Ball Sunday with wins over Washburn (3-2, 9-0 (6)) and Northern Colorado (8-0 (6)) at Arrocha Ballpark. With the wins, the Jayhawks improved to 8-0 in preseason tournament action.

Freshman pitcher Valerie George picked up the complete-game victory against Washburn in the first contest. George struck out nine, gave up four hits and walked two in the 3-2 win. Seniors Nettie Fierros and Jessica Moppin each notched homeruns for the Jayhawks.

Senior pitcher Serena Settlemier handled Northern Colorado in the second game of the day, striking out 13 batters and walking one in the no-hitter. At the plate, Settlemier went 2-for-2 with a home run and double for two RBI in the win.

Moppin was also 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles for two RBI against the Rams.

In the nightcap, junior righty Kassie Humphreys threw the first three innings, striking out four and allowing three hits. Settlemier finished the last three innings, striking out three, but also went 3-for-4 with a double and homer (two-run walk off) for four RBI.

KU is next in action Sunday, Oct. 9 when it hosts Johnson County at noon and Missouri Western at 2 p.m. in Lawrence.
