PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. —

University of Kansas senior Elizaveta Avdeeva and junior Edina Horvath were defeated in the first round of qualifying doubles play at the ITA All-American Championships on Tuesday, concluding the Jayhawks’ showing at the event.

The tandem, which came in ranked 36th in the nation, was defeated by Marshall’s 59th-ranked duo of Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor, 8-4. Avdeeva and Horvath needed to win three matches in order to advance to the main draw.

The setback ended play for KU at the Championships, as Avdeeva was also eliminated from the pre-qualifying singles bracket on Saturday.

KU will return to action this weekend when it travels to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Classic. The three-day event is set to get underway Friday.
