LOS ANGELES – The Kansas tennis doubles team of Erin Wilbert and Ekaterina Morozova defeated the No. 6-seeded team in the prequalifying draw of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Women’s All-American Championships, Saturday morning at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

“This was such a big win for Erin and Kate,” said Kansas head coach Amy Hall-Holt. “They play so well together and it showed. To win against a tough Texas team is a great way to start off here.”

Wilbert and Morozova downed Texas’ Amanda Craddock and Caroline Larsson, 8-5, to advance to the round of 16. The two will face Wake Forest’s Martina Pavelic and Kayla Duncan in the next round.

Two more wins are required to advance to the qualifying draw, which takes place at Riveria Country Club, in nearby Pacific Palisades.

Morozova fell in her prequalifying singles match to Mississippi’s Laura van de Stroet. The junior was on top after taking the first set 6-4, but van de Stroet came back to force a third by going 6-2 in the second. Morozova fell 6-4 in the final set.

“Kate lost in a tough three-set match but she’s excited to get to play on another day with Erin.”

The duo will square off against the Deamon Deacons’ Pavelic and Duncan Sunday morning, at 9 a.m., PST, at the LA Tennis Center on the campus of UCLA.
