Kansas Swept Away By Cyclones, 3-0

AMES, Iowa –

A balanced <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>IowaState volleyball team defeated the University of Kansas 3-0 in Wednesday night’s action at the Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones used a .378 attack percentage to top the Jayhawks 30-24, 30-25 and 30-19 as KU dropped to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12. ISU improved to 11-5 and 5-1 in conference play.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Senior Emily Brown led Kansas with nine kills and 21 assists. Junior Natalie Uhart pitched in seven kills, while junior Savannah Noyes and freshman Karina Garlington each notched six.

The Cyclones used an accurate .389 hitting percentage to win game one, 30-24. The Jayhawks kept IowaState within reach throughout the match tying the game at 13 and again at 18, but couldn’t find the answer to pull ahead of ISU. Brown finished the first game with four kills and seven assists.

Kansas, despite hitting a match-best .286, could not overcome a steady ISU attack in game two. KU took advantage of three straight ISU errors to take its first lead of the game at 21-20. The teams proceeded to tie at the next three points until the Cyclones used a pair of 4-0 runs to pull out of reach and win 30-25.

Iowa State put the match away with a 30-20 victory in game three.

Kansas will return home to the HorejsiFamilyAthleticsCenter Saturday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. match versus Texas A&M.
