Postgame Quotes

Kansas 2, Texas Tech 0

Oct. 3, 2008 – Lawrence, Kan.

Head Coach Mark Francis:

On dominating the pace of the game, but not scoring until late:

“I felt like at halftime that we dominated possession in the first half, but in the final third we weren’t very good. We had eight shots, but for as much as we had the ball, we really didn’t capitalize. At halftime I got after (the team) a little bit. I thought our decision making wasn’t smart at all, so I challenged them. It was definitely better (in the second half).”

On the feeling when Monica Dolinsky scored the first goal:

“It was a feeling of relief. When you have the ball as much as we had it, you need to score. (Texas Tech) is dangerous on the counter-attack. Their forward (Brittney Harrison) is quick, so there’s always that chance. That’s always a scary pass. I thought the kids did a good job of being patient (in the second half). I thought we played a smarter game in the second half.”

On holding Tech without a shot for the first 60 minutes of play:

“When we talked to the team before the game, our goal was to get a shutout. We haven’t had too many shutouts (lately). We said we have to make sure that if they score a goal, it’s got to be an unbelievable goal where you just sit there and clap. We couldn’t give them anything, because a lot of the goals we’ve been giving up have been soft. I think the defenders and Julie (Hanley) responded really well today.”
