Oct. 3, 2012

IRVING, Texas – Kansas senior Angel Goodrich was named to the 2012-13 Preseason All-Big 12 Team while teammate and fellow senior Carolyn Davis received honorable mention honors, as released by the league office in a vote of the conference’s head women’s basketball coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

“I’m really excited for Angel and I have so much respect for the coaches in our league and for them to tip their hat to her is quite an honor,” KU head coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “This league has such elite players and for Angel to be recognized as one of the top-five players in our conference is a testament to the work she has put in and just how talented she is.

“Angel and Carolyn are special players and we are excited about those two and the potential they have. We look for them to have fantastic senior years and lead this program again.”

Both Goodrich and Davis are among the 25 NCAA Division I women’s basketball student-athletes to be named to the 2012-13 State Farm® Wade Trophy Watch List, which is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

In addition to the Wade Watch List, Goodrich was also named to Lindy’s Preseason All-America Third Team. She led the nation last season in assists per game (7.4) and paced KU with 14.0 points per game as she guided the Jayhawks to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, their best postseason run since 1998. Goodrich also broke a Kansas and Big 12 Conference record, tallying 250 assists on the season.

Davis led the Jayhawks in scoring last season with 16.9 points per game, while becoming the 23rd Jayhawk to score 1,000 career points. She was named 2012 WBCA All-America Honorable Mention and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, despite only playing in 23 games after suffering a season-ending knee injury at Kansas State.

Joining Goodrich on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team were Preseason Player of the Year Brittney Griner from Baylor, Odyssey Sims (Baylor), Chelsea Poppens (Iowa State) and Aaryn Ellenberg (Oklahoma). Each was honored on the All-Big 12 Teams at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season with Griner, Sims, Poppens and Ellenberg earning first team honors while Goodrich was a second team selection.
