Oct. 3, 2012

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Kansas’ No. 25 ranked doubles duo of senior Monica Pezzotti and junior Dylan Windom ended their appearance at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships Wednesday after their opponents elected to withdraw from the tournament for unknown reasons earlier in the day.

Pezzotti and Windom were originally scheduled to face Texas A&M’s Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and Cristina Stancu in the consolation of the qualifying doubles draw at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Neither team was eligible to qualify for the tournament’s main draw after losing in round one the previous day.

DePaul’s Jasmin Kling and Patricia Fargas defeated fourth-seeded Pezzotti and Windom, 8-6, in Tuesday’s opening round.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Kansas women’s tennis team will begin play on Friday at the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. The 10-team event runs from Friday-Sunday and will include William & Mary, Harvard, James Madison, Marshall, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn, Penn State and VCU.

Official draws for the Tribe Invitational will be released Thursday.

Kansas is coming off a strong showing at its season-opening Jayhawk Invitational, in which five different KU players won their respective singles draws. Freshman Maria Jose Cardona and junior transfer Haley Fournier also won Doubles Draw B in their Kansas debuts.
