Big Jay Trailing Purdue Pete in Fifth Round of Mascot Challenge

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Big Jay lost his second-strait matchup in the Capital One Mascot Challenge last week, losing to Sebastain (2-2) of the University of Miami. The loss drops Big Jay’s record to 2-2 and puts him in sixth place overall. Realizing that he is in the middle of his first losing streak of the competition, Big Jay again asked for the support of his fans. “It’s getting down to crunch time now,” said Big Jay. “I am looking to stop this losing streak with the help of my loyal Jayhawk fans!”

Big Jay is currently trailing Purdue Pete (1-3) by over 14,000 votes in the fifth week of the competition. Pete is coming off of his first win of the mascot challenge but has been one of the top vote-getters for the entire competition. Fans can vote daily by visiting the voting site www.capitalonebowl.com, or via text message by sending the code M2 to 4ESPN (43776). Voting for Big Jay’s matchup against Purdue Pete will end Monday Oct. 10, at 7:59 a.m.

Each week, Big Jay will be matched up against a mascot from a different school. Voting periods for each matchup will run from 8:00 a.m. Monday to 7:59 a.m. the following Monday. On Nov. 21, the regular season ends and the mascots with the top six overall records in head-to-head matchups advance to the playoffs. The playoffs will be single elimination and will consist of three rounds. Voting for the championship match will run from Dec. 5 to Dec. 19, with the winner being crowned Jan. 2, 2006, at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
