Fall Baseball Update #2

Friday, Oct. 7
Erik Morrison notched a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth for Team Red to tie the game at 4-4, a score that would stand after nine complete innings. Brock Simpson led Team Blue with a 3-for-4 performance including two triples and two runs scored.

Sean Land recorded the start for Team Red and threw five innings, allowing two hits and one run. The junior struck out four Jayhawks. Ricky Fairchild started on the mound for Team Blue and struck out two in four innings of work.

Gus Milner and John Allman each posted two hits for Team Red. Ross Kelling chipped in two hits for Team Blue.

Saturday, Oct. 8
Preston Land posted a two run double and Ryne Price added a RBI double to lead Team Red to a 6-1 victory over Team Blue. Freshman Andy Marks recorded the win, pitching five innings while allowing one earned run.

Carter Holt took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five. Nick Czyz pitched four innings for Team Blue, fanning four while allowing two hits.

Jared Schweitzer tallied two of Team Red’s eight hits.

Sunday, Oct. 9
Freshman Ryan Anthony pitched five shutout innings and freshman Kevin Bedford went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Team Red past Team Blue, 6-5.

John Allman (2-for-4) and Buck Afenir (1-for-4) both added doubles to Team Red’s 11-hit attack. Anthony stuck out one batter while allowing two hits.

Kyle Murphy was 3-for-5 to lead Team Blue. Erik Morrison and Preston Land both went 2-for-4 with Land hitting a double.

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

After starting fall practice on Friday, Sept. 30, the Kansas baseball team played two intrasquad games over the weekend at Hoglund Ballpark.

Saturday, Oct. 1
The opening game ended in a 3-3 tie after nine innings of play with both teams tallying five hits. Junior Sean Land worked four-innings of two-hit ball, striking out four and allowing one earned run.

Tulane transfer Ricky Fairchild struck out four batters in three innings on the mound. The senior allowed one earned run on three hits. Redshirt-freshman Carter Holt struck out three batters in three innings of work. The Leawood, Kan., native gave up two hits and one earned run.

Senior Don Czyz struck out five batters in three innings while allowing just one hit. Czyz walked one batter and didn’t give up an earned run.

Offensively, senior Matt Baty was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored. Kyle Murphy chipped in a double and swiped two bags.

Sunday, Oct. 2
KU bats awoke during its second intrasquad game as the Red team defeated the Blue team, 11-6, behind a 14 hit attack. Freshman Preston Land blasted three home runs and had five RBI for the Red team. Ritchie Price also hit a homer for the Red squad while Jared Schweitzer was 2-for-3.

Trey Randa picked up the win for the Red team. The senior did not allow an earned run on two hits during his three innings of work.

Red-shirt freshman Nick Faunce had three of the Blue teams 10 hits. Freshman Paul Smyth was tagged with the loss. The Atascadero, Calif., native allowed one earned run and struck out two batters in two innings of work.

Left-handed freshmen Andy Marks and Nick Czyz also saw time on the mound. Marks struck out four batters and didn’t allow a walk in three innings of work. Czyz struck out one batter and allowed one earned run in three innings.
