LAWRENCE, Kan. – More than 115 Kansas student-athletes attended the Career Makeover Workshop in Hadl Auditorium Tuesday evening at the Wagnon Student Athlete Center.

The event lasted nearly two hours and featured interactive stations where student-athletes could meet one-on-one with prospective employers as well as receive tips and advice to increase their chances of getting a job, such as proper professional attire for an interview. The evening also included KU student-athletes participating in a Target “Dress of Success” fashion show.

Twelve companies participated in the event and discussed internship and full-time positions with the student-athletes. The companies represented were Crown Automotive, Career Athletes, Farmers Insurance, Target, The Buckle, Teach for America, Cerner, Northwestern Mutual, Forest Pharmaceuticals, Enterprise Holdings, The Woody Financial Group and The Fix Salon.

The night concluded with a 45-minute session for current student-athletes to interview an expert career panel, which included Director of Community Affairs for Career Athletes Marc Boerigter, nationally recognized sports broadcaster Brenda VanLengen, two prospective employers and two former KU student-athletes. The two former student-athletes on the panel were former KU volleyball player and current Cerner employee Katie Martincich as well as former KU football player Joe Vaughn, who now works for Kansas Athletics as an assistant strength coach for the football team.
