Kansas Swimming and Diving Competes in Intrasquad Meet

Oct. 6, 2006

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas swimming and diving team completed its annual intrasquad meet at Robinson Natatorium Friday evening among a full house of parents, fans, and Kansas alumni.

The Jayhawks, originally scheduled to compete in two teams, Crimson and Blue, instead scrimmaged as one team in the practice meet. The format of the meet consisted of shorter events that allowed the team to focus on racing.

“Overall, it was a really good meet,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “I would give us a ‘B’ grade. We were solid, but nowhere close to where we are going to be. It was a great chance to race in a fun, relaxed environment. We had to make some adjustments and everyone did great. We really had fun and accomplished a lot.”

Leading the way for the Jayhawks was freshman Maria Mayrovich, who finished first in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Sophomore Danielle Herrmann captured wins in both the 50 and 100-yard breaststroke, along with the 100-yard IM. Junior Lauren Bonfe clocked in first in the 50-yard backstroke, as well as the 50-yard butterfly.

On the diving front, junior Jenny Roberts earned a first place finish in the one-meter competition, while freshman Meghan Proehl finished first in the three-meter diving competition.

The Jayhawks will next be in action when they head to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big 12 Relays on October 13.
