Jayhawks Enjoy Success at First Day of Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Freshman Kunigunda Dorn advanced to the championship match of the Flight B singles bracket, and sophomore Edina Horvath will play for third in the C Flight, headlining a successful opening day at the Indiana University Hoosier Classic.

Dorn, a <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Sopron, Hungary, native, defeated Mississippi State’s Valeriya Makarycheva and Indiana’s Cecile Perton en route to her berth in Saturday’s Flight B final against Georgia’s Darya Ivanov. Horvath, after dropping her semifinal match in three sets, will take on IU’s Lindsey Stuckey in the third-place match in the Flight C draw.

Also playing well on Friday for the Jayhawks was junior Elizaveta Avdeeva, who in her first action of the season, advanced to the consolation final of the Flight A bracket.

In round-robin singles play, sophomore Yuliana Svistun went 2-0 on Friday, while junior Stephanie Smith won one match.

Play at the Hoosier Classic will continue on Saturday, with the conclusion of singles matches along with the opening rounds of the doubles bracket.
